Postby Dave » Wed Feb 23, 2011 7:39 pm

this one came in the shop in a bag,the costumer took it to another shop and they charged him $35 to tell him it is junk.the guy likes this saw, doesnt like the new ones(or the price). i told him to bring it in and ill take a look at it and give him a price. it had a scored piston and cyl. and a some parts were missing. we had all the parts in stock. i fixed it for WAAAY less than a new one and he is happy

my hot saw. its a 98 350. it was in the junk box with some others.it must not have many hours on it cause it looks pretty new. another one with a scored piston/cyl. took it apart, used some muriatic acid to remove the aluminum from the cyl wall, cleaned up piston, new ring,NO base gasket(higher compression) ,359 carb, and did the muffler mod.it runs beauty :yahoo:

ask around and you shall recive :yahoo: i needed a flywheel so i could try the 181 ta see if it runs. so i asked a local logger if he had any of these saws. he told me he has a shit load of um. so i asked him about a flywheel. so he stopped by the other night with this for free :yahoo:

its a 288
Image

so i put the FW on my 181 and it runs, BUT,the crank bearings are real bad, so bad that the FW hit the coil
Image

so took it all apart and decided to make it a 288

You still working on saws Dave? how much do you know about the x-torq Husqvarnas? I got a 455 Rancher I've been using to build the road in to my cabin lot. We have just past the 1 mile mark...did I mention we started in march of this year?!? so yeah, I've got tons of wood, and lots of big stuff. I've got a Logosol Big Mill attachment to put on it, as well as a 24" .050 bar and some ripping chain. Over at the arborist.com site they don't think the saw is big enough to spin a 24" chain for one (84 drive links), and two they don't think that it'll have the guts to rip boards, and three, they say that the x-torq is un-moddable due to the combustion chamber fresh air flush thingy.

I've already proved them wrong, in that the 24" bar and crosscut chain spins just finest kind, and I cut down a maple that was 22" around at the base without even a hiccup - warm knife through butter.

I feel that as long as I'm not trying to win a race, go slow and let the chain do the work and keep it sharp, it should be alright to make some beams and planks.

this is the mill I bought. (to be fair this guy does NOT have a ripping chain on his saw, but he's got 25cc's on me)

what say you, good neighbor?

my thought is,you can put a 24in bar on a husky 350 as long as ya dont over work the saw. let the saw do the work and KEEP the chain SHARP. i have a 24in bar on my 288(6.1hp) and also a skip chain, you can bare down on this saw and it dont slow down. the saw mill is kinda cool.
